I noticed a few drops under my brake caliper one morning. I immediately assumed it was brake fluid, so I tightened up the bleeder at the caliper and cleaned the fluid with a shot of brake cleaner and a clean rag. The bleeder was tight... hmmm.
A few days later, the spots show up again...
I investigate further and realize that it's the fork seals that are leaking. I'm not surprised, the motorcycle is four years old, and has 75,000 miles on it. These are the original seals.
I head to Sierra BMW and purchase new seals and some fork oil.
A close-up of one set of seals. I purchased two sets, so I could do both sides of the fork.
I also picked up a Clymer manual for the bike.
First things, first. I strip the plastic off the bike and remove the Gadget-Guy GPS mount.
Next, I support the motorcycle with a floor jack to get the load off the forks.
With the front end off the floor, I begin disassembly of the handlebars.
Three screws need to be removed, the handlebar pinch bolt, the fork tube pinch bolt, and a bolt that secures the handlebar to the triple tree.
